About the Department
In the 1970s, Turkish Literature and Ottoman Turkish Lectures given by Fahir İz and Ali Alpaslan constituted the core of B.U. Turkish Language and Literature Department, within Boğaziçi University Linguistics and Literature Department (presently called Western Languages and Literatures). Our department was formed by the selfless efforts of the founding president Süheyla Artemel and Fahir İz and it started operating in the 1981 - 1982 academic year along with graduate and Ph.D programmes developed with the help of the second president Günay Kut.
